Donald Capoccia
Managing Principal
Donald Capoccia is an urban developer in the fullest sense, combining his career of building in New York City with civic activities devoted to public arts and architecture initiatives.
As the managing principal of BFC Partners, Capoccia spearheads the firm’s focus on constructing affordable housing in emerging neighborhoods. Under his guidance, BFC Partners was the first developer in New York City to mix low and middle-income restricted apartments with market-rate rentals. To further encourage this building trend, Capoccia was a founding member in 1998 of the New York State Affordable Housing Association. Today, his association works to increase affordable housing programs and subsidies.
Joseph Ferrara
Principal
Joseph Ferrara is a second-generation builder with nearly 35 years of construction and development experience. As one the creating principals of BFC partners, Joseph has been an integral part of the firm’s growth. While still involved with the construction process, Joseph has made managing the firm’s branding and marketing initiatives his primary focus. He’s also brought his eye for design to the selection of the finishes used in the private and public spaces within each of the BFC developments.
Under his direction, BFC has received multiple marketing awards for branding, collateral material, interior design, and first-class sales galleries, and he is currently leading the marketing efforts for over 2 million square feet of new mixed use developments in addition to the firm’s latest project, Bedford Armory.
Brandon Baron
Principal
Brandon has personally spearheaded numerous company partnerships with community and religious institutions including the Harlem Congregations for Community Improvement, the Crown Heights Jewish Community Council, the Women’s Housing and Economic Development Corporation and many others who aligned with BFC Partners in joint ventures focused on the development of low-to-moderate-income rental and ownership housing opportunities.
These projects have included the successful rejuvenation of an entire 148th Street block in Manhattan, whose highlight was The Washington, a 104-unit limited equity cooperative. Other such projects completed under his management have included the City Point Tower 1 250-unit high-rise in Downtown Brooklyn providing 80% affordability, the 84-unit Essex Crossing – Site 8 which provided 100% affordable housing to Seniors and emphasized a community preference-based urban renewal model, and the 211-unit Rollins at Essex Crossing containing 50% residential affordability.
Brandon is a Member of the New York State Association for Affordable Housing and several other industry and trade organizations where he contributes with an emphasis on coordination of shared goal achievement between the industry and its vital municipal agencies and partners. In this role he participates in panels and joint working groups to collaborate with Officials in support of effective solutions to bringing the best and the maximum achievable amount of affordable development to New Yorkers.
Winthrop Wharton
Executive Director of Development
Winthrop Jay Wharton is the Executive Director of Development and Investment at BFC Partners where he is responsible for the company’s new development projects and the pursuit of new business opportunities. He is responsible for managing all aspects of development including evaluating new investment opportunities, project budgeting, debt/equity transactions, design management, construction management, procurement, and execution of joint venture deals.
Win has a diverse experience having overseen the development of a broad range of real estate assets from complex mixed use development, retail shopping centers, to affordable housing projects. He joined BFC in March 2008 from Atlantic Holding Company, a private real estate partnership, where he served as a Development Associate and was responsible for all operations, development, leasing, marketing and management for projects in the North East.
Win holds a dual degree in Business Management and History from Lynchburg College and a Masters in Real Estate Finance from NYU. He was named executive of the month by the New York Real Estate Journal. He’s a member of the Urban Land Institute, The America Real Estate and Urban Economics Association, and Young Leaders Council of the New York Housing Conference. He enjoys outdoor activities such as sailing, fishing, mountain climbing, snowboarding and played soccer in college.
Kevin E. Fullington
General Counsel
Kevin was born in Ireland and moved to New York City as a child. He attended New York City public schools and grew up in an affordable housing complex on Roosevelt Island. Kevin is a graduate of Fordham University School of Law where he received the Archibald R. Murray Public Service Award. During his legal career, he has worked for the New York State Office of the Attorney General, the New York City Council and New York City Mayor, Michael Bloomberg. Prior to joining BFC, Kevin was a Partner and co-chair of the Government Relation Group at New York City real estate law firm, Herrick, Feinstein LLP. At BFC, Kevin oversees all the legal affairs of BFC and its affiliated companies. This includes all the companies’ real estate transactional work, litigation, contracting, leasing, landlord/tenant issues, joint-venture and partnership issues, employment law, compliance and risk management. Kevin is also a member of the Zoning Board of Appeals in Darien, CT.
