Juan Barahona formed SMJ Development in 2014. SMJ was created to seek and develop infill and smaller-medium density affordable housing projects in the tristate area in partnership with BFC. Juan began his career in 2001 at the NYC Department of Housing Preservation and Development in the Division of New Construction. In 2005 he joined BFC Partners where he was responsible for managing the development of 15 Quincy, Toren Condominium, Stapleton Senior Housing, Stapleton Court, and Jupiter 21. He later joined the Richman Group Development Corp as a Vice President in 2012. Seeing opportunity on the horizon Juan decided to form SMJ and join forces with BFC to co-develop in 2014. SMJ Development is certified as a Minority Business Enterprise (MBE) with the NYC Department of Small Business Services. He received both his BA in Government and MPA in Housing Policy at Cornell University. Outside of BFC Partners, Juan is a member of the New York State Association for Affordable Housing 2G, Fifth Avenue Committee Board of Directors, and La Unidad Latina.
